Vildagliptin is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults when blood sugar levels cannot be controlled through diet and exercise alone. It helps control blood sugar levels and can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic medications when they have not proven effective enough to control diabetes.
? Dosage & Usage
- 50 mg once daily in the morning if you are taking Vildagliptin with another medication called Sulfonylurea.
- 100 mg daily: 50 mg in the morning and 50 mg in the evening if you are taking Vildagliptin alone or with medications like Metformin, Glitazone, a combination of Metformin & Sulfonylurea, or Insulin.
- 50 mg daily in the morning if you have moderate to severe kidney disease or are undergoing dialysis.
? How to Take
- Swallow the tablets whole with some water.
- Continue taking Vildagliptin for the duration prescribed by your doctor.
- Your doctor will regularly monitor your condition to ensure the treatment is achieving the desired effect.
⚠️ Warnings & Precautions
- Consult your doctor before taking Vildagliptin if you have:
- Type 1 diabetes (the body does not produce insulin) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of diabetes).
- Sulfonylurea medications (your doctor may reduce the dose to avoid low blood sugar).
- Moderate to severe kidney disease or undergoing dialysis.
- Liver disease or heart failure.
- A history of pancreatic disease.
- If you have ever had to stop taking Vildagliptin due to liver disease, do not take this medication.
⚠️ Side Effects
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken with Sulfonylurea.
