Gliclazide 30 mg Extended-Release Tablets
Why Gliclazide is used:
? Gliclazide is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent) as an addition to a healthy diet and exercise.
Do not take Gliclazide if:
? You are allergic to Gliclazide, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any of the ingredients in this medication.
? If you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent).
? If you have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication with very high blood sugar levels, nausea, frequent urination, fatigue, and muscle weakness).
? If you are in diabetic coma.
? If you have serious liver or kidney problems.
? If you have porphyria (a genetic disorder affecting the liver or bone marrow).
? If you are taking Miconazole (antifungal).
? If you are breastfeeding.
Warnings and precautions:
? Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, especially if you:
- Are recovering from injury, surgery, infection with fever, or other forms of stress.
- Have liver or kidney problems.
- Have a deficiency in the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
? Gliclazide may cause low blood sugar, especially if you miss a meal, exercise excessively, or drink alcohol.
? Symptoms of low blood sugar include:- Nausea
- Hunger
- Shaking
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Drowsiness
- Sweating
Possible Side Effects:
⚠️ Stop using Gliclazide and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
- Rash, itching, or red skin.
- Chest tightness or difficulty swallowing or breathing.
- Swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Unusual hoarseness.
Serious Side Effects:
- Allergic reactions.
- Low blood sugar levels.
- Liver problems.
Other medicines and Gliclazide:
? Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking. Gliclazide interacts with many drugs, including:
- Medicines for high blood pressure.
- Medicines for irregular heartbeats.
- Medicines for lowering cholesterol.
- Medicines for mood disorders.
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Some antibiotics and antifungals.
- Corticosteroids.
- Birth control pills.
- Blood thinners like warfarin.
- Danazol.
- Cimetidine.
How to take Gliclazide:
? For adults only.
- Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
- Take it with your first meal of the day.
- Extended-release tablets: The recommended starting dose is 30 mg once daily with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to a maximum of 120 mg daily.
- Modified-release tablets: The recommended starting dose is 40-80 mg once daily with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to a maximum of 320 mg daily, divided into two doses.
How to store Gliclazide:
?️ Store at room temperature between 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).
? Keep this medication out of reach of children.
? Do not use this medication after the expiration date printed on the package.
