Glacera XR - Product Description

? This medication contains metformin and is used as an oral antidiabetic agent for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps control blood sugar (glucose) levels and improves the body's ability to use insulin effectively. It is often combined with dietary changes and physical activity. This medication may also be used for other purposes; consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

? Dosage and Administration

? There is no fixed dosing regimen for controlling high blood sugar in Type 2 diabetic patients on Glacera XR. The dosage should be individualized based on both efficacy and tolerance, without exceeding the recommended maximum daily doses.

? The maximum recommended daily dose for adults is 2000 mg. Glacera XR is generally administered once a day with the evening meal.

? The dosage of Glacera XR should start low, with gradual titration to minimize gastrointestinal side effects and allow determination of the minimum effective dose to control blood sugar levels.

  • Adults:
    • Starting dose: The usual starting dose for Glacera XR tablets (metformin hydrochloride extended-release) is 500 mg once daily with the evening meal.
    • Dose escalation: Increase the dose by 500 mg weekly, up to a maximum of 2000 mg once daily with the evening meal.
    • If blood sugar control is not achieved with 2000 mg once daily, consideration should be given to trying 1000 mg twice daily.
    • If higher doses of metformin are required, Glacera XR can be used with a maximum total daily dose of 2550 mg in divided doses, as indicated above.
