? What is Glimepiride Used For?
  • Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent) as an addition to a healthy diet and exercise.

? When Should You Not Take Glimepiride?

  • If you are allergic to Glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any other ingredients in this drug.
  • If you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent).
  • If you have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication with very high blood sugar levels, nausea, frequent urination, fatigue, and muscle weakness).
  • If you are in diabetic coma.
  • If you have severe liver problems.
  • If you have kidney problems.

⚠️ Precautions and Warnings

  • Inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, including:
    • Recovering from an injury, surgery, infection with fever, or other forms of stress.
    • Liver or kidney problems.
    • If you have a deficiency in the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
  • This medication may cause a drop in blood sugar levels, especially if you miss a meal, exercise excessively, or drink alcohol. Symptoms of low blood sugar include nausea, hunger, trembling, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. You may need to take sugar cubes or juice.

? How to Take Glimepiride

  • This medication is intended for adults only.
  • Take as directed by your doctor.
  • Take this medicine with food, preferably with your first meal of the day.
  • The usual starting dose is 1 mg tablet once daily with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to a maximum of 8 mg daily.

    • Rash, itching, red or peeling skin.
