Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) as an addition to a healthy diet and exercise.
? Do Not Take Glimepiride
- If you are allergic to Glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any other ingredients of this medication.
- If you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent).
- If you have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication with high blood sugar, nausea, frequent urination, fatigue, and muscle weakness).
- If you are in diabetic coma.
- If you have serious liver problems.
- If you have kidney problems.
⚠️ Warnings & Precautions
Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including:
- If you are recovering from injury, surgery, fever, or other forms of stress.
- If you have liver or kidney problems.
- If you have a deficiency in the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
Glimepiride may cause a drop in blood sugar, especially if you miss a meal, exercise too much, or drink alcohol. Symptoms of low blood sugar include: nausea, hunger, shaking, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. You can take a sugar cube or some juice.
⚠️ Serious Side Effects
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
- Rash, itching, red, blistered, or peeling skin.
- Tightness in chest or throat, difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking.
- Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency of these side effects is unknown.

? Other Medications and Glimepiride
Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, especially:
- Pain and anti-inflammatory medications

- Mood disorder medications
- Some antibiotics
- Antifungals
- Cancer medications
- Birth control pills
- Asthma and nasal decongestant medications
- Steroids
- Stomach ulcer medications like cimetidine
? How to Take Glimepiride
- This medication is intended for adults only.
- Take this medication as directed by your doctor.
- Take it with food, preferably with your first meal of the day.
- The usual starting dose is 1 mg once a day with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose up to a maximum of 8 mg per day.
? Storage
- Store at room temperature, between 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).
- Keep this medication out of reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiration date printed on the box.
