The active ingredients, Vildagliptin / Metformin, belong to a class of medications called oral anti-diabetic agents.
It is used for treating adults with type 2 diabetes, also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes.
This medication is prescribed when diabetes cannot be controlled through diet and exercise alone, and/or with other anti-diabetic medications (insulin or sulfonylureas).
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or when the insulin produced doesn't work effectively.
Diabetes can also develop if the body produces too much glucagon, which raises blood sugar levels.
Both insulin and glucagon are produced in the pancreas. Insulin helps lower blood sugar levels, especially after meals, while glucagon encourages the liver to produce sugar, raising blood sugar levels.
Both active ingredients, Vildagliptin / Metformin, help regulate blood sugar levels.
Vildagliptin helps the pancreas produce more insulin and reduces glucagon production.
Metformin improves the body's ability to use insulin.
This medication has been proven to lower blood sugar levels, helping to prevent the complications of diabetes.
The dosage of Vildagliptin / Metformin depends on the individual's condition.
