Dapagliflozin is used in adult patients (18 years and older) to treat type 2 diabetes, where the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot use the insulin produced effectively. This leads to high blood sugar levels.
? Do Not Use Dapagliflozin
- If allergic to Dapagliflozin or any of its ingredients.
⚠️ Warnings & Precautions
Contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you experience any of the following signs:
- Nausea, sickness, stomach pain, extreme thirst, rapid and deep breathing, confusion, drowsiness, unusual tiredness, a sweet odor in breath, a sweet or metallic taste in the mouth, or unusual body odors in urine or sweat, or rapid weight loss.
- These could be signs of diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition due to increased ketone levels in the blood or urine.
- Risk factors for diabetic ketoacidosis include prolonged fasting, excessive alcohol intake, dehydration, sudden insulin dose reduction, or increased insulin needs due to surgery or serious illness.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis may occur even with normal blood sugar levels. If suspected, seek immediate medical attention and discontinue the medication.
⚠️ Serious Side Effects
- Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, or tongue
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Hives or itching on the face or body
- Fainting
? Other Medications and Dapagliflozin
- Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, especially:
- Diuretics (water pills)
- Other diabetes medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas.
- Your doctor may adjust the doses of these medications to prevent low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
? How to Take Dapagliflozin
- The usual starting dose for type 2 diabetes is 10 mg once daily.
- Your doctor may start you with a 5 mg dose if you have liver issues.
- Take the tablet whole with half a glass of water.
- It can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day, but try to take it at the same time each day for consistency.
? Storage
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiration date on the label or carton (EXP).
- This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
- Do not dispose of the medicine in drains or household waste.
