Basaglar Insulin Glargine 100 Units / mL Solution for Injection in Pre-filled Pen
? Drug Name:
Basaglar Insulin Glargine 100 Units / mL Solution for Injection in Pre-filled Pen
? Strength:
100 Units / mL
? Dosage Form:
Pre-filled Pen for Injection
? Description
Basaglar contains insulin glargine, a long-acting insulin that is very similar to human insulin.
It is used to treat diabetes in adults, adolescents, and children aged 2 years and above.
Diabetes is a condition where the body does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels. Insulin glargine helps reduce blood sugar levels in a consistent and long-lasting manner.
? How to Use
- Attach a new needle before every use.
- Use only compatible needles.
- Inspect the cartridge before using the pen. Do not use Basaglar KwikPen if you notice particles. Only use it if the solution is clear, colorless, and water-like.
- Do not shake or mix the solution before use.
- To avoid potential contamination, do not share the pen with others.
- Inject under the skin only (subcutaneously). Do not inject intravenously as it may alter the effect and cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
- The injection site should be rotated within the designated skin area.
- The best injection sites are the abdomen, thigh, upper arm, or buttocks.
- Always use a new pen if you notice that blood sugar control is worsening unexpectedly.
- Do not refill the pens. Dispose of used pens properly.
⚠ Warnings and Precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Basaglar if you have:
- Skin changes at the injection site, such as lumps under the skin (ensure proper injection technique to avoid such changes).
- Sick or injured conditions, as they may affect your blood sugar control.
- Travel plans, as you need to discuss the availability of insulin and storage conditions in the destination country.
- Changes in diet or physical activity that may affect your insulin needs.
- Heart failure, particularly if you are taking insulin along with pioglitazone for Type 2 diabetes, as it may increase the risk of heart failure.
