Insulin Glulisine is an anti-diabetic agent used to lower high blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes. It is suitable for adults, adolescents, and children aged 6 years and above. Diabetes is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. Insulin Glulisine is made using biotechnology and acts rapidly, within 10-20 minutes, with a short duration of action, about 4 hours.
• You have a low blood sugar episode (hypoglycemia).
• You are allergic to Insulin Glulisine or any of its components.
Inform your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions, including if you:
• Have liver or kidney issues.
• Have heart failure or other heart problems.
• Are under 6 years old.
Insulin Glulisine can cause serious side effects. These occur in only a few people and may include:
• Low blood sugar.
• Severe allergic reactions.
• Low potassium levels (hypokalemia).
• Heart attack.
Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, especially those called thiazolidinediones, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements.
• Always use Insulin Glulisine exactly as your doctor has instructed.
• Inject Insulin Glulisine subcutaneously (under the skin). It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm or through continuous infusion into the abdominal wall.
• The effect will be faster if injected into the abdomen.
• Rotate injection sites from one injection to the next (abdomen, thigh, upper arm).
• Take Insulin Glulisine shortly (0-15 minutes) before or after meals.
• Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiration date printed on the box and pen label after “EXP”. The expiration date refers to the last day of the stated month.
• Unused pens: Store in the fridge (2°C - 8°C). Do not freeze. Do not place the pen near the freezer compartment. Keep the pen in the outer carton to protect it from light.
• In-use pens: Pre-filled pens in use (or carried as a backup) can be stored for up to 4 weeks at a temperature below 25°C, away from direct heat or light. Do not store used pens in the fridge. Do not use after this period.
• Do not use if the insulin is not clear and colorless.
• Do not dispose of the medicine in wastewater or household waste.
