Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent), as an addition to a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
? Dosage & Usage
- Starting dose: Typically, 1 mg once daily with the first meal of the day.
- Your doctor may gradually increase the dose up to a maximum of 8 mg per day depending on your response.
⚠️ Warnings & Precautions
- Do not use if you are allergic to Glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any ingredients in this medicine.
- Do not use if you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent), diabetic ketoacidosis, or are in diabetic coma.
- Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney problems.
- Tell your doctor if you have other health conditions, including:
- Recovering from an injury, surgery, or infection.
- G6PD deficiency (enzyme deficiency).
- This medicine may cause low blood sugar, especially if you miss a meal, exercise excessively, or drink alcohol.
- Symptoms of low blood sugar include nausea, hunger, shaking, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. In such cases, consume sugar cubes or juice.
⚠️ Possible Side Effects
- Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, redness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Severe low blood sugar and liver problems.
? Interactions with Other Medicines
- Inform your doctor if you are taking other medications, including:
- Pain and inflammation medications.
- Other diabetes medications.
- Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin).
- Medications for high blood pressure, arrhythmias, cholesterol, mood disorders, infections, cancer, asthma, or nasal congestion.
- Steroids, and antacids such as Cimetidine.
