Glimepiride 1 mg Tablets
1. Indications ?
Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) as an adjunct to a proper diet and exercise.
2. Contraindications ?
Do not take Glimepiride if:
- You are allergic to Glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
- You have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent).
- You have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition with high blood sugar, nausea, frequent urination, fatigue, and muscle weakness).
- You are in a diabetic coma.
- You have severe liver problems.
- You have kidney problems.
3. Warnings and Precautions ⚠
Tell your doctor if you have:
- Recently recovered from an injury, surgery, infection, or any form of stress.
- Liver or kidney problems.
- A deficiency in the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
This medicine may cause low blood sugar, especially if you skip a meal, exercise excessively, or consume alcohol. Symptoms of low blood sugar include nausea, hunger, trembling, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. You can consume a sugar cube or fruit juice to counteract this.
4. Potential Side Effects ⚠
Stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
- Rash, itching, red or blistered skin.
- Tightness in the chest or throat.
- Difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking.
- Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
The frequency of these side effects is unknown.
Serious Side Effects:

5. Drug Interactions ?
Tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including:
- Pain and anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Other diabetes medications.
- Anticoagulants like warfarin.

- Cholesterol-lowering drugs.
- Medications for mood disorders.
- Some antibiotics.

- Stomach ulcer medications such as cimetidine.
6. Dosage and Administration ?
- This medication is for adults only.
- Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Take it with food, preferably with the first meal of the day.
- The usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose up to a maximum of 8 mg per day.
7. Storage Instructions ?
- Store at room temperature between 68–77°F (20–25°C).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medication after the expiration date stated on the packaging.
